DON'T OUTRUN YOUR HEADLIGHTS |
Aug. 1, 2022 by Steve Moses

I recently saw a post on Facebook where several firearm instructors debated the value of very fast splits (the time that elapses between the firing of one shot and the subsequent firing of another shot). One party was considering adding a compensator and a weapon-mounted light to his lightweight, compact handgun in order to minimize the effect of recoil and get faster splits, and others suggested that perhaps that defeated the purpose of carrying a compact handgun in the first place and noted that even unmodified his handgun was still capable of shooting quick splits.

One of the reasons that I purchased a Glock 42 was based upon comments made by Karl Rehn during a private class I attended last spring while recovering from wrist surgery. Karl probably has as much experience as anyone that I know short of Tom Givens in working with a variety of students that range in age from young adult to elderly. Karl believes that there is a place for small sub-caliber (less than 9mm) handguns for persons that have small hands and possible grip strength issues. He brought out a Sig 365 in .380 caliber for me to look at and shoot, and I was amazed at the lack of recoil in such a small handgun due to the low-pressure round.

BETWEEN A HARSH WORD AND A BULLET |
July 22, 2022 by Shawn Vincent
|
If a knife-wielding assailant threatens to kill you from across a parking lot, he may have the ability and intent to follow through, but unless he comes closer, he doesn’t have the immediate opportunity. If a would-be robber casually raises his shirt to reveal a pistol tucked in his waistband, he’s just telegraphed his ability and willingness (intent) to kill you, but until he moves to draw his pistol, an armed defender who is both skilled and prepared may still have the opportunity to resolve the situation without a shot being fired.
